Mzuzu University (Mzuni) last Friday inducted new student union leaders a month after the tenure of the previous executive came to an end. The induction was supposed to take place two weeks after the election of new office bearers but it was delayed because of the Christmas holiday break which the school observed.

However, the induction took place last Friday at Chatonda lodge in Mzuzu much to the delight of the new office bearers. The university librarian Mr Felix Majawa who represented the deputy vice chancellor and the vice chancellor encouraged the new office bearers to adopt the spirit of contact and dialogue which was championed by the Wazamazama katatu led government. ‘Be dedicated and make Mzuni a centre of academic excellence” said the librarian.

Speaking at the event the newly elected president Limbani Gama said his led team will serve the interest of students. “As a union our main task is to represent the views and interest of students and that will be our guiding tag” said Gama. The new president served as deputy publications director in the outgoing union. Other executive members include Salomy Mazengera and peter Machilika who were voted as secretary and speaker respectively. Gama the president is a level 3 library and information science student who has become the first person to be president from this faculty.
